JD Results from Provincials

I would like to offer my congratulations to the JD athletes who competed at the Alberta Provincial Track and Field Championships in Edmonton on July 4th and 5th Daniel, Tynan, Eric, Max, Sean,Chase, Anna, Emma, Madelaine and Teaghan. Among them, these athletes produced some excellent results. All athletes achieved a personal best in at least one event, and most showed improvement in several events. Here are the highlights of the weekend:

· Chase won the overall bronze medal for girls in the bantam multiple events, accumulating 24 points to finish 3rd of 26 athletes. Chase was 3rd in the 80m hurdles in a time of 15.05s, 3rd in the 800m in a personal best time of 2:34.54s, 3rd in the 1200m in a personal best time of 4:05.54s (a PB of 10.79s) and 3rd in the long jump.

· Madelaine competed in an impressive eight bantam events and produced some excellent personal best performances. Madelaine was 2nd of 22 athletes in the discus, with a 4.42m personal best throw of 19.21m. Madelaine was 10th in the shot put with a personal best throw of 6.26m. Madelaine also ran a PB in the 80m and took an impressive 10.33s off her PB in the 800m. Despite being a first year bantam and having to compete against older athletes, Madelaine finished an impressive 7th of 26 athletes in the bantam multiple events.

· Emma, who is also a first year bantam, showed that she is a force to be reckoned with in the distance events. Emma was 7th of 24 athletes in the 800m, where she finished in 2:41.83s, a PB of 12.32s. Emma was also 7th in the 1200m, where she finished in 4:21.14s, a PB of 21.28s. Emma was also 10th in the 80m in a personal best time of 11.58s and 13th in the discus. Despite having to compete against older athletes, Emmafinished 13th of 26 athletes in the bantam multiple events.

· Daniel competed in four midget events over the weekend and achieved personal best performances in three of them and matched his PB in the fourth. In the discus, Danielfinished 3rd of ten athletes with a throw of 30.50m, a PB of 3.59m. In the shot put, Danielfinished 4th with a throw of 10.59m, a PB of 20cm. In the 100m, Daniel finished in a personal best time of 13.09s, while in the 200m Daniel ran his PB time of 27.35s.

· Tynan achieved personal best performances in both of his throwing events. In the discus,Tynan added another 2.18m to his PB, throwing 27.37m to finish 5th. In the shot put,Tynan’s throw of 10.52m was a PB of 69cm.

· Anna took an impressive 6.97s off her PB in the 800m and also ran a PB in the 80m. Annaalso impressed her coaches with her maturity this weekend, traveling and staying in a room with the high school athletes. Most young athletes might have been intimidated under those circumstances, but Anna rose to the occasion and impressed all of the coaches with her organization and ability to compete well under challenging circumstances.

· Eric took 5.05s off his PB in the 800m and also accomplished a personal best performance in the shot put.

· First year bantam Max took 3.95s off his PB in the 800m to finish 7th of 15 athletes, and also ran a PB in the 80m.

· The most impressive PB of the weekend came from Sean, who took an astonishing 26.88s off his PB in the 1200m, where he finished 6th. Sean finished 7th overall amongst the bantam boys.

· The gutsiest performance of the weekend came from Teaghan who, despite falling twice during the 80m hurdle competition, picked herself up and finished the race. Teaghan also ran a personal best time in the 80m, added another 10cm to her PB in the long jump, and was 4th of 29 athletes in the shot put, where her throw of 7.10m was a PB of more than half a metre.
