JD Results from New Balance Meet #2

Report from coach Robin:

Congratulations to Adeem, Alex, Cole, Ethan, Isaac, John, Kevin, Mehrdad, Noah, Robert, Thomas, Amelia, Anna, Corrina, Deia, Hanna, Kamila, Kiannah, Lisa, Rathaine, Rhea, Sarah and Tyra, who competed at the second New Balance meet yesterday. Among them, these 23 athletes produced some excellent results.

There were many PBs, especially in the throws. Coach Michelle must have been very pleased. Rathaine (DT, HT) andMehrdad (200mH, 300m) each achieved two personal bests, while Rhea (100m), Kiannah (DT), Hanna (HT), Amelia(100m), Lisa (100m), Robert (1200m), Ethan (1200m), Noah (1200m), Kevin (1200m), Cole (DT), Alex (300m) andAdeem (100m) each recorded a personal best in one event. That is an impressive list, given that the meet was only three hours long and most athletes only competed in one or two events. Also, many athletes bettered a personal best that they had just achieved a week earlier at the Spring Challenge and Combined Events Meet. Well done athletes!

Some of the most notable Personal bests were: Rathaine (a remarkable 7.88m in the hammer, 93cm in the discus), Robert(7.46s in the 1200m) Hanna (2.43m in the hammer), Kiannah (1.46m in the discus), Cole (1.41m in the discus), Kevin(4.66s in the 1200m), Rhea (more than half a second in the 100m), Lisa (almost half a second in the 100m) and Mehrdad(just shy of a second in the 300m, and more than half a second in the 200mH). Well done athletes!

First-year midget Hanna, with a 2.43m personal best throw of 35.78m in the hammer, qualified to compete at Legion Nationals in Langley in August by beating the standard required of 30.00m. Of course, her throw of 33.35m at the Spring Challenge last weekend had already qualified her for the meet, but I had overlooked this important fact. My apologies Hannaand well done! Hanna won the hammer throw competition, placing 1st of four athletes, and was also 3rd of ten athletes in the discus, with a throw of 22.46m. Well done Hanna!

Bantam Rathaine had another outstanding meet, looking quite at ease competing up amongst the older midget athletes. In the midget hammer, Rathaine added a remarkable 7.88m to her PB, throwing the hammer 28.75m to place 2nd of four athletes. In addition, Rathaine won the midget discus competition, finishing 1st of ten athletes with a 93cm personal best throw of 24.21m. Well done Rathaine – outstanding results for a bantam!

First-year bantam Lisa took almost half a second off her PB in the 100m, where she finished in 14.14s. Lisa finished 11th of 31 midget athletes, a remarkable feat for a first-year bantam competing up against older midget athletes. Well done Lisa! You looked right at home amongst the midgets!

Robert, Noah and Ethan battled it out in the 1200m, with Robert running a 7.46s personal best time of 3:44.95s to place 3rd of nine athletes. Noah ran a personal best 3:45.19s to place 4th while Ethan finished in a personal best 3:46.41s to finish 5th. In that same race, first-year midget Kevin finished very strongly, and recorded a 4.66s personal best time of 4:07.59s. Well done boys!

First-year midget Mehrdad had another outstanding meet. He began by bettering the provincial record that he set in the 200m hurdles at the Spring Challenge last weekend. At this meet, Mehrdad finished the 200m hurdles in 26.56s, more than a half second faster than last weekend. This establishes a new 200mH provincial record for boys 14 years and under in Alberta.Mehrdad won the 200m hurdles, placing 1st of seven athletes, and his time of 26.56s again beats the standard of 27.20s required to compete for Team Alberta at Legion Nationals in Langley in August. In the 300m, Mehrdad ran a personal best 38.87s, to finish 2nd of fourteen athletes and qualify for Legion Nationals by beating the standard required of 40.00s. Well done Mehrdad!

First-year midget Alex continues to get stronger in the running events, taking more than a second off the personal best in the 300m that he had established just a week earlier at the Spring Challenge. Well done Alex!

Kiannah had an outstanding discus competition, adding another 1.46m to her personal best. Well done Kiannah!

Despite getting stepped on and falling at the start of the 1200m, first-year midget Kamila managed to pick herself up and still finish 2nd of eight athletes. With that face plant, Coach Blair, who witnessed the fall, was worried that we might have another broken arm in the group. Thankfully not! Well done Kamila! Great job of leaping up and carrying on!

Well done athletes! Some great results! Robin
