JD Results from New Balance Meet #2

Congratulations to Brent, Andrew, Nathan, Patrick, Sean, Sahad, Lyle, Ben, Quinn, Janessa, Delainy, Dana, Jill, Anna, Lauren Kruger, Madelaine, Emma, Kate, Anise, Marissa, Kiannah, Caitlin, Grace, Cam and Lauren Yardley, who participated in the second New Balance meet yesterday. These twenty-five athletes took advantage of the perfect weather to produce some outstanding results and twenty personal best performances (PBs).

Brent, Patrick, Sahad and Delainy led the way with personal best performances in both of their events, while Andrew, Lyle, Quinn, Janessa, Jill, Anna, Madelaine, Kate, Anise, Kiannah, Caitlin and Cam each achieved a personal best in one of their events. Well done athletes! It is good to see you benefiting from your hard work at training sessions.

There were twenty-one top five finishes recorded by JD athletes: First-year midget and captain Madelaine (1st in javelin; 1st in shot put), first-year midget Lyle (1st in high jump, 5th in javelin), first-year bantam Grace (2nd in the 1200m, 5th in the 300m, 5th in the 200m hurdles), first-year midget Dana (2nd in shot put, 3rd in javelin), second-year midget Quinn(2nd in the 300m, 3rd in high jump), first-year midget Nathan (2nd in high jump, 4th in javelin), second-year midget Brent (2nd in 200m hurdles), second-year bantam Caitlin (3rdin the 300m), first-year midget Jill (3rd in the 1200m), first-year midget Sean (3rd in the 200m hurdles), first-year midget Sahad (4th in the shot put), first-year midget Patrick (4thin the 200m hurdles), second-year bantam Anise (5th in shot put) and first-year bantamLauren Yardley (5th in the 1200m). It is impressive to note how many of these top five results were produced by either first-year midgets (1997) or bantams (1998/1999), who were competing up against the older midget (1996) athletes. Well done athletes!

The point totals based on the athletes’ performances from the first two New Balance meets are not yet posted. I will email them to you as soon as they are available. You’ll recall that athletes competing in the midget events at the New Balance meets receive points based on their results at the three meets in the series – 10 points for 1st place, 8 points for 2nd, 6 points for 3rd etc, down to 1 pt for 8th place. Medals will be awarded to the top three midget boys and midget girls based on the point totals after the final meet on 6th July.

Here are some more highlights from the meet:

In the javelin, first-year midget and JD Captain Madelaine placed 1st of five athletes with a throw of 23.19m, an outstanding personal best performance of 3.56m. Madelaine also won the shot put competition, where she placed 1st of eight athletes with a throw of 8.54m. Well done Madelaine!

After an impressive result in the pentathlon high jump at the Combined Events Provincial Championships last weekend, first-year midget Lyle entered the high jump competition at this meet and won the competition, placing 1st of four athletes and clearing 1.40m, a PB of 6cm. Well done Lyle!

First-year bantam Grace clearly wasn’t intimidated by the older midget athletes. In the 1200m, Grace ran an impressive race, and finished 2nd of eleven athletes in 4:15.87s, an outstanding time for a first-year bantam. Grace also finished 5th of sixteen athletes in the 300m in 49.25s, and 5th of nine athletes in the 200m hurdles, where she finished in 34.40s. Well done Grace!

First-year midget Dana again demonstrated her strength in the throws by finishing 2nd in the shot put and third in the javelin! Well done Dana!

After winning a provincial bronze medal in the pentathlon at the Alberta Combined Events Championships last weekend, Quinn had another outstanding meet. In the 300m, Quinnfinished 2nd of sixteen athletes in 46.99s, a personal best of 2.01s. In the high jump,Quinn finished 3rd of sixteen athletes, clearing 1.38m. Well done Quinn!

In his first javelin competition, first-year midget Nathan finished 4th with a throw of 21.49m.Nathan was also 2nd in the high jump, where he cleared 1.35m. Well done Nathan!

Brent took 1.73s off the PB in the 200m hurdles that he had just established last weekend at the Spring Challenge to finish 2nd of four athletes in 29.78s. Brent also took almost a full second of his time in the 300m, where he finished 6th in 42.78s. Well done Brent!

In her first attempt at the 300m, bantam Caitlin easily won her heat and placed 3rd of sixteen athletes overall, finishing in an impressive 48.38s. Caitlin also added 10cm to her PB in the high jump, where she cleared 1.20m. Well done Caitlin!

First-year midget Jill finished 3rd of eleven athletes in the 1200m, and added over a metre to her PB in the shot put, with a throw of 6.15m. Well done Jill!

In his first attempt at the 200m hurdles, first-year midget Sean finished 3rd in 36.00s. Well done Sean!

First-year midget Sahad placed 4th of seven athletes in the shot put with a throw of 7.34m, a PB of 76cm. In the 1200m, Sahad took 3.65s off the PB that he had just established at the Spring Challenge meet last weekend, finishing 6th of ten athletes in 4:00.80s. Well done Sahad!

First-year midget Patrick took a second and a half off the PB in the 200m hurdles that he had just established last weekend at the Spring Challenge meet, and added another 25cm to his PB in the shot put. Well done Patrick!

Bantam Anise added over half a metre to her PB in the shot, where she finished 5th with a throw of 7.12m. Anise was also 6th in her first attempt at the 200m hurdles, where she finished in 35.84s. Well done Anise!

In her first attempt at the 1200m, first-year bantam Lauren Yardley ran a very strategic race and finished 5th of eleven athletes in 4:24.07s, an impressive time for a first-year bantam. Lauren also cleared 1.20m in the high jump, matching her personal best. Well done Lauren!

The PB of the meet must go to first-year bantam Cam, who took an impressive 11.65s off the PB in the 1200m that she had established just a week ago at the Spring Challenge meet. Well done Cam!

First-year midget Andrew took 1.73s off his PB in the 1200m, where he finished in 4:10.01s. Well done Andrew!

First-year midget Anna took over two seconds off her PB in the 300m, where she finished 7th of sixteen athletes in 49.69s. Anna also cleared 1.20m in the high jump, equaling her PB. Well done Anna!

Midget Janessa took just shy of a second and a half off her PB in the 300m, where she finished 6th of sixteen athletes in 49.31s. Well done Janessa!

In her first attempt at the high jump, first-year midget Lauren Kruger cleared 1.25m to finish 10th. Well done Lauren!

First-year midget Delainy demonstrated how much stronger she is becoming by taking 2.11s off her PB in the 300m, and an impressive 7.48s off the PB in the 1200m that she had established just last weekend at the Spring Challenge. Well done Delainy!

JD Captain and bantam athlete Emma enjoyed another great meet, finishing 7th of sixteen athletes in the high jump, and 9th of sixteen athletes in her first attempt at the 300m. Well done Emma!

Bantam Marissa placed 7th in the 1200m, finishing just off her PB pace in 4:37.37s. Well done Marissa!

Bantam Kate added another 5cm to her PB in the high jump, where she cleared 1.15m. Well done Kate!

Kiannah took an impressive 6.87s off the PB in the 1200m that she has established just last weekend at the Spring Challenge meet, finishing in 5:03.33s. Well done Kiannah!

Bantam Ben was at a disadvantage in the midget shot put, where he had to throw an extra 1kg, but he did very well, finishing 6th with a throw of 5.70m. Well done Ben!
