I have been warned by the meet director that it may take several days for the Calgary Hershey meet results to be posted. Rather than delay my results email, I will hope that what I wrote down after the meet is mostly complete.
I would like to offer my congratulations to Andrew, Nathan. Jeremy Kinnear, Sean, Sahad, Matt, Nikki, Kirsten, Reagan, Emma, Delainy, Rhea, Dana, Jill, Anna, Grace, Mia, Cam, Lauren Kruger, Meghan, Anise, Marissa, Hanna, Kiannah, and Hawaa – who competed at the Calgary Hershey meet on Sunday. Among them, these athletes produced some excellent results.
The following athletes have qualified for the Hersey Provincial Meet in Edmonton on Saturday 18th June by placing in the top four in at least one of their events: Andrew (4th in the 800m, 3rd in the 1600m), Nathan (1st in the standing long jump), Jeremy (4th in the 400m, 3rd in the 800m), Sean (3rdin the standing long jump), Sahad (3rd in the 800m, 2nd in the 1600m), Nikki (3rd in the 800m), Emma (2nd in the 4x100m), Delainy (4th in the 800m), Dana (1st in the ball throw), Jill (4th in the 1600m), Grace (2nd in the 400m, 1st in the 800m, 2nd in the standing long jump), Mia (2nd in the 4x100m), Meghan (2nd in the 4x100m, 3rd in the standing long jump), Anise (2nd in the 4x100m, 1st in the standing long jump) and Hanna (3rd in the 200m, 3rd in the standing long jump). Well done athletes! Congratulations! That is an impressive list of athletes going to Hershey Provincials, and does not include athletes like Lauren Yardley and Caitlin, who have qualified at other local Hershey meets.
For those athletes who are going to Hershey Provincials on 18th June, you need follow the link below to the Hershey Provincials website, where you will find all of the informationthat you need plus the registration form. Note that you must email or fax your completed registration form to Athletics Alberta no later than Friday 10 June. At the Hershey Provincial meet, you will only compete in the events that you finished in the top four at the Calgary Hershey meet. You should wear your CALTAF singlet at the Provincial meet. Please confirm with me whether or not you plan to participate in the provincial meet. As Hershey Provincials is not a club meet, athletes are responsible for getting themselves to and from Edmonton and finding their own accommodation.
In addition to the top four finishes listed above, there were many other highlights. Here are my favourites:
Grace had an outstanding meet, qualifying for Hershey Provincials in all three of her events. Grace won the 11-12 girls 800m, finishing 1st of thirteen athletes in 2:37.80s, a PB of 2.29s. In the 400m, Grace placed 2nd of ten athletes in 1:09.08s, an outstanding time for a first-year bantam. Finally in her first standing long jump competition, Grace finished 2nd of fourteen athletes, clearing 1.90m. Well done Grace!
Sean ran the race of a lifetime in the 13-14 boys’ 800m, taking a very impressive 16.84s off his PB to finish 5th in 2:36.50s. Sean qualified to compete at Hershey Provincials in the standing long jump, where he cleared 1.91m and finished 3rd of eleven athletes. Well done Sean!
Sahad again demonstrated his strength in the distance events by qualifying for Hershey Provincials in both the 13-14 boys’ 800m and 1600m. In the 800m, Sahad took an impressive 4.69s off his PB to finish 3rd of seven athletes in 2:34.20s. In the 1600m, Sahad finished 2nd of five athletes in 5:40.00s. Well done Sahad!
In her first attempt at the standing long jump, Anise won the 13-14 girls’ competition, clearing 2.09m to finish 1st of twenty-six athletes. Anise also qualified 2nd in the 4x100m relay, along with teammates Emma, Mia and Meghan. Well doneAnise!
Hanna had an outstanding meet, qualifying for Hershey Provincials in both the 11-12 girls’ 200m and standing long jump. In the 200m, Hanna was 3rd of fifteen athletes in 30.8s, while in the standing long jump, Hanna cleared 1.86m and was 3rd of fourteen athletes. Hanna just missed qualifying in the 400m, where she placed 5th of ten athletes in 1:13.50s. Well done Hanna!
New athlete Jeremy impressed his coaches by qualifying for Hershey Provincials in the 11-12 boys’ 400m and 800m. In the 800m, Jeremy finished 3rd of eleven athletes in 2:57.30s, while in the 400m, Jeremy finished 4th of seven athletes in 1:14.00s. Well done Jeremy!
Delainy ran an outstanding 800m, taking 6.52s off her PB to qualify 4th of eleven athletes for Hershey Provincials in the 13-14 girls’ race. Delainy also ran a 1.3s PB in the 200m, where she finished in 30.5s. You earned that spot at Provincials,Delainy – well done!
Andrew qualified for Hershey Provincials in both of his track events. In the 13-14 boys 1600m, Andrew finished 3rd of five athletes in 5:54.80s, while in the 800m, Andrew finished 4thof seven athletes in 2:35.90s, a PB of 2.88s. Well doneAndrew!
Nathan qualified for Hershey Provincials by winning the 13-14 boys’ standing long jump competition, where he cleared 2.08m to finish 1st of eleven athletes. Well done Nathan!
New athlete Nikki debated long and hard about whether to enter the 13-14 girls’ 800m or ball throw and, in the end, decided on the 800m. Her coaches are very happy that she did, because Nikki ended up placing 3rd of eleven athletes and qualifying for Hershey Provincials in 2:52.40s. Well done and good choice Nikki!
Dana qualified for Hershey Provincials by winning the 13-14 girls’ ball throw competition, where she placed 1st of eleven athletes witrh a throw of 34.75m. Dana also took just shy of half a second off her PB in the 200m, where she finished in 29.9s. Well done Dana!
Jill qualified for Hershey Provincials by placing 4th of ten athletes in the 13-14 girls’ 1600m, where she finished in 5:48.30s. Well done Jill!
Meghan finished 3rd and qualified for Hershey Provincials in the 13-14 girls’ standing long jump, where she cleared 2.02m.Meghan also qualified 2nd in the 4x100m relay, along with teammates Emma, Mia and Anise. Well done Meghan!
Lauren ran an outstanding 13-14 girls’ 800m and just missed qualifying for Hershey Provincials by one place. Laurenfinished 5th of eleven athletes in 2:58.90s, an impressive personal best of 7.47s. Well done Lauren!
Marissa ran a strong race in the 13-14 girls’ 1600m, placing 5th of ten athletes in 5:54.20s, just missing qualifying for Hershey Provincials by one place. Well done Marissa!
Cam also ran an impressive 800m, once again achieving a personal best in that event, a trend that she has been keeping since the JD Group moved outdoors. Cam finished 6th of thirteen 11-12 athletes in 3:06.70s, a personal best of 2.38s. Well done Cam!
The 13-14 years 4x100m relay team of Emma to Anise toMia to Meghan qualified for Hershey Provincials by placing 2nd of five teams in 1:00.20s. In that same race, the team ofDana to Anna to Hawaa to Delainy finished 3rd in 1:00.70s. Well done ladies!
