Athlete Profile: Austin Ost – Alberta Midget Male Athlete of the Year

On behalf of the JD athletes and coaches, I would like to offer my sincerest congratulations to JD athlete Austin Ost, who was named Alberta’s Midget Male Athlete of the Year for 2009-2010 at the Athletics Alberta Awards Night on Saturday evening in Edmonton. Among his many accomplishments last year, Austin represented Alberta at the Western Canadian Midget and Youth Championships in Winnipeg, where he won the gold medal in the javelin and bronze medals in the long jump, triple jump, discus throw and medley relay. As a member ofTeam Alberta at Legion Nationals in Ottawa, Austin finished 7th of fourteen athletes in the triple jump, with a personal best jump of 11.88m. During the outdoor season, Austin set two meet records, in the javelin (45.27m) and the long jump (5.43m), and was the overall gold medalist in the Midget Grand Prix of the New Balance Series. At the Outdoor Provincial Track and Field Championships, Austin won six provincial medals – gold in triple jump and javelin, silver in the 4x100m relay, and bronze in the long jump, discus and shot put. At the end of the outdoor season, Austin was ranked 1st in the province in the triple jump and javelin throw, 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the shot put. A most worthy recipient of this prestigious award! Well done Austin! We are thrilled that you have been honoured with this award and recognized for such an outstanding year.
