Karl Wagner Named Outstanding Athlete of the Year

Congratulations to Karl Wagner for winning the Calgary Booster Club Calgary Senior High School Athletics Association Outstanding Senior High School Male Track and Field Student Athlete.

He is described as a young man who combines “superior athleticism with strong school spirit and who recognizes the importance of community”. This description does not include the fact that his high school average is over 95%.

In track and field he has won gold in both hurdles and jumps at the divisional meets all three years he has competed. He is a 14 time medalist in provincial competitions and is considered one of the top hurdlers and jumpers in Alberta.

At school he is also involved with the cross country team, is a member of the school band program, participated in the Model UN, helped run the Young Cups Cancer fundraising group and is a member of the creative writing club. He will also be the Class Valedictorian this year.

Outside of school he participates as a Quality Assurance Tester of Medical Imaging Software. He is a youth group leader at his church and volunteers for Inn from the Cold. Next year he will be attending the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Engineering.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this year’s winner of the Al Holm award for Boys Track and Field is Karl Wagner from Sir Winston Churchill High School.
