JD Results New Balance Meet #1

My congratulations to the 35 JD athletes – Nicholas, Rui, Rowan, Austin, Eric, Patrick Lyster, Scott, Alex McDuffie, Matthew Schalm, Tyler, Alex Charlesworth, Nathan, Lockie, Katie, Lauren Garnett, Ellie, Jessica, Bailey, Kendall, Antha, Kennedy, Lauren Fridman, Chase, Siri, Emily, Steph, Delainy, Dana, Anna, Emma Martin, Madelaine, Emma Chong, Rhea, Mia and Heather – who competed in the first of three New Balance meets yesterday. Despite the strong winds and cold temperatures, these athletes produced some excellent results.

I was especially impressed with the bantams – Alex C, Nathan, Lockie, Steph, Delainy, Dana, Anna, Emma M, Madelaine, Emma C, Rhea, Mia and Heather – who didn’t look in the least bit intimidated, despite having to compete up with the older midget athletes. They held their own against the older athletes and, in some cases, even managed to finish in the top three – an outstanding accomplishment, given that their opposition was one or two years older.

Bantam Madelaine won the midget discus competition, finishing 1st of five athletes with a personal best throw of 20.32m, a PB of over 1 metre. Congratulations Madelaine!

Bantam Emma Martin placed 3rd of six athletes in the midget 800m, finishing just a second off her PB in 2:39.75s, an excellent time for a bantam at any time, but especially given the strong winds. Emma was also 8th of 26 athletes in the long jump, 9th of 26 athletes in the 200m, where she finished in 30.34s, and 13th of 31 athletes in the 100m, where she ran a PB time of 14.72s. Well done Emma!

In his first throws competition, bantam Nathan finished 3rd of eight athletes in the midget discus, with a throw of 19.33m. Congratulations Nathan!

Bantam Alex Charlesworth finished 7th of twelve athletes in the midget long jump, with a personal best jump of 4.15m. Alex also recorded a personal best in the 100m, where he finished 18th of 24 athletes in 14.61s. Congratulations Alex!

Bantam Dana certainly put pressure on the midgets, who were determined to stay ahead of the younger athletes. Dana finished 16th of twenty-eight athletes in 200m and was 18th of thirty-one athletes in the 100m. In her first discus competition, Dana finished 4th with a throw of 15.32m. Well done Dana!

Trying to keep up with the midgets certainly worked well for bantam Anna, who took almost half a second off her PB in the 100m. Well done Anna!

Although the wind gusts made the long jump competition more than its usual challenge, first-year bantam Heather, one of JD’s youngest athletes, managed to finish 18th of 26 athletes.Heather was also one of only two JD athletes who were brave enough to tackle the 2000m. Congratulations Heather!

First-year bantam Emma Chong, another of JD’s youngest athletes, demonstrated her speed in the 100m, where she finished 24th of 31 athletes in 15.72s. Emma also took advantage of her gymnastics background, showing great accuracy on the long jump runway, which enabled her to finish 16th of 26 athletes with a jump of 3.34m. Congratulations Emma!

Another first-year bantam, Mia, also did very well in the 100m, finishing 23rd of 31 athletes in 15.67s. Mia also ran a very strong 200m, where she finished 20th of 28 athletes in 32.87s. Well done Mia!

Steph, one of JD’s newest and youngest athletes, was also one of our busiest, taking on four events, including the challenging 80m hurdles. Steph produced some great results in all of her events, with which to challenge herself at future meets. Well done Steph!

Bantam Lockie did his best to keep up with the midgets in the long jump competition, adding another 6cm to his PB. Well done Lockie!

JD’s youngest athlete, first-year bantam Rhea, looked very strong and not in the least intimidated as she competed in the 100m, 200m and long jump. Well done Rhea!

Our midgets also competed very well!
