Some of the most significant improvement came from Ella in the 60m, Corrina in the 60m, Vienna in the 60m and Hanna in the 300m. Well done athletes – it is good to see you becoming stronger and improving.

As always, the coaches observed a few more highlights:

Coach Michelle noticed that one of the best displays of good sportsmanship came fromSarahDeiaKiannah and Corrina, who stood beside the track cheering on not only their JD teammates, but the older CALTAF athletes as well. Thank you ladies!

Maxine and Kevin were both competing in their first meet, and the coaches agreed that, given those circumstances, both ran very well. Well done Maxine and Kevin!

The coaches loved the last 50m of Corrina’s 1000m race. A very determined Corrinafought hard to move from 3rd to 1st and claim the victory, finishing less than half a second in front of the second place runner from Calgary Olympic, who was equally determined to win. Well done Corrina – a well-earned victory! In the 60m, despite a false start in the previous meet, which might have made some athletes tentative,Corrina was 1st out of the blocks in her heat and ran a strong race, reducing her 60m personal best time from 9.24s to 8.97s. Well done Corrina!

Coach Blair noted that Annette again demonstrated what a determined, gutsy and strategic runner she is. In the 1000m, Annette ran a very clever race, sitting patiently behind the leaders until the last 100m, when she sprinted ahead and claimed the win. In the 150m, it was a very close race, with the top three athletes finishing within 21/100ths of each other. Annette finished 1st with a lot of determination and a great lean! Well done Annette! You earned that Series medal!

Coach Ed thought that Harrison and Phillip both looked especially strong in the 300m.Harrison was 3rd of 10 athletes in the 15-year-old boys’ race, while Phillip placed 3rdof twelve 14-year-old athletes. Well done Harrison and Phillip!

Lauren impressed all of her coaches with her strong running, especially in the 1000m and 4x400m relay. Great speed Lauren!

Coach Blair and I thought that all of the 1000m runners  – Alex, Cole, Kevin, Corrina, Lauren, Cam, Deia, Annette, Lisa and Patrick – competed very well. It is encouraging to see a strong group of distance runners forming in JD.

Coach Blair liked the fact that Delainy went out hard in her 300m, running an especially strong first 100m. Well done Delainy!

I have a whole new respect for Patrick’s mathematical abilities. As the meet progressed, Patrick kept meticulous record of his points and those of his nearest opponents, so that he knew exactly what he had to do to ensure himself of his Series medal. The thinker in the group! Well done Patrick!

Coach Ed was impressed that more short-distance-inclined/sprinter Lisa was willing to run the 1000m to ensure herself of the overall Series silver medal for 12-year-old girls! Well done Lisa – you earned that medal with those five laps and that 4th place finish!

Coach Blair commented that Kevin, who was competing in his first meet, ran a very strong and gutsy 1000m, staying with the older athletes for the first three and a half laps of the race. Well done Kevin!

A heartfelt thanks to those JD parents who either volunteered as officials or came out to watch the team compete – the athletes and coaches appreciate your support.
