JD Results from the Alberta Summer Games

I would like to congratulate the CALTAF JD athletes – Patrick Lyster, Antha, Tyler, Emily, Jessica, Lauren Garnett, Lauren Fridman, Brent Bester, Kendall, Matthew Schalm, Maria, and Janessa – who represented Calgary/zone 3 at the Alberta Summer Games. Among them, these twelve athletes produced some excellent results.

Two athletes captured medals in their individual events. Emily won the silver medal in the 80m hurdles, where she finished 2nd of 15 athletes in a personal best time of 13.69s, a PB of half a second. Patrick won the bronze medal in the 100m hurdles, where he finished 3rd of nine athletes in a personal best time of 16.84s.  Congratulations to Emily and Patrick – I am certain that Coach Lou will be very pleased with your results in the hurdles. Well done!

Five JD athletes also captured 6 medals in the relays, with Jessica bringing home two relay medals. Lauren Fridman and Jessica teamed up with CALTAF Power and Speed athlete Jasmine Galey to win the bronze medal in the medley relay. The girls placed 3rd of five teams in a time of 4:41.70s. Jessica ran one of the 200m legs, while Lauren ran the 800m anchor. Jessica andAntha teamed up with CALTAF Power and Speed athlete Jasmine Galey to win the bronze medal in the 4x100m relay. The girls finished 3rd of eight teams in a time of 54.58s. Brent and Tylerteamed up with CALTAF Middle/Long Distance runner Cuauhti Olguin to win the bronze medal in the medley relay, with the team finishing 3rd of eight in a time of 4:16.64s. Tyler was also a member of the 4x100m relay team, but the team was disqualified.

The JD athletes recorded fourteen personal best performances, with Patrick leading the way with an impressive five PBs (100m, 1000m, shot put, 100mH and the pentathlon), Emily achieving 3 personal best performances (80mH preliminary and final, and 200mH), Matthew Schalm recording two personal bests (DT and JT), and Lauren Fridman (1200m), Kendall (200mH), Tyler (300m) and Brent Bester (1200m) each recording one personal best performance.

Other impressive results in individual events include:

In addition to winning the bronze medal in the 100m hurdles, Patrick finished 7th of 13 athletes in the pentathlon. He ran a personal best time of 13.18s in the 100m, took over 13 seconds off his PB in the 1000m, where he finished in 3:15.76s, added another 36cm to his PB in the shot put with a throw of 6.25m, and finished the pentathlon with 1685 points, a personal best of 126 points.

Lauren Fridman finished the 1200m in a personal best time of 4:18.48s, a PB of just under 10 seconds.

Brent took more than 6 seconds off his PB in the 1200m, where he finished 9th in a time of 3:47.00s.

Tyler took more than a half second off his PB in the 300m, where he finished 6th of 18 athletes in 40.27s.

Matthew added almost a metre to his PB in the discus with a throw of 26.32m, and an impressive 1.20m to his PB in the javelin, with a throw of 29.97m. Matthew finished 6th of 14 athletes in the discus and 6th of twelve athletes in the javelin.

In addition to her silver medal in the 80m hurdles, Emily was 5th in the triple jump, 7th in the high jump and 8th in the 200m hurdles, where she ran a personal best time of 32.58s.

Kendall was 5th in the high jump and 10th in the 200m hurdles, where she ran a personal best time of 33.68s.

Antha finished 8th in the 100m and 11th in only her second triple jump competition.

When the Team Calgary head coach needed a shot put competitor, Jessica rose to the challenge and competed in the event.

Despite missing most of the year’s training, Janessa finished 9th of 14 athletes in the 200m.

Lauren Garnett accepted the challenge of the pentathlon, where she finished eighth.

Maria represented Calgary/Zone 3 in all of the throwing events. Her best finish was a 9th in the discus.

Well done JD athletes! I am sorry that I was not there to watch you compete. By all accounts, it sounds as though you enjoyed the Alberta Summer Games and represented CALTAF and the JD Group very well. My congratulations to you all!
