JD Results from New Balance Meet #2

Congratulations to the nineteen JD athletes – Brent Bester, Austin, Rowan, Patrick Lyster, Alex McDuffie, Jackson, Nathan, Lauren Garnett, Maria, Jessica, Antha, Lauren Fridman, Siri, Delainy, Dana, Anna, Madelaine, Mia and Heather – who competed in the second New Balance Meet last evening. Despite the miserable conditions, there were some excellent results.

Here are some highlights:

Midget athlete Austin had an outstanding meet, breaking one meet record and tying a second. In the javelin, Austin’s best throw was 41.11m, which beat the old record of 32.83m set by CALTAF athlete Alex Bymoen in 2008. Austin’s throw of 41.11m was a personal best by 4.59m. In the high jump, Austincleared 1.50m, equaling the meet record set by Alex in 2009. Well done Austin! An outstanding accomplishment at any time, but particularly given the trying conditions!

Bantam athlete Delainy impressed her coaches by recording huge PBs in three events. In the 200m,Delainy finished in 32.60s, a PB of 6.01s. In the 300m, Delainy finished in 51.85s, a PB of 2.94s. Finally, in the 1200m, Delainy outdid herself, finishing 2nd in 5:03.00s, a PB of 21.18s. Well doneDelainy!

Although still a bantam and having to compete up with the older midget athletes, Dana recorded some outstanding results. In the 200m, Dana finished 4th of 11 athletes in 30.53s, a PB of 1.13s. In her very first javelin competition, Dana won the competition, with a throw of 14.12m. Well done Dana!

Bantam Madelaine also managed to put some pressure on the midget athletes, finishing 3rd of 7 athletes in the shot put, with a personal best throw of 7.98m.

Rowan won the shot put competition with a throw of 8.20m, a personal best of 13cm.

Despite having just returned from a week of sailing with his school and looking a little worse for wear,Brent Bester took 4.02s off his PB in the 1200m, finishing 4th in 3:53.24s. Well done Brent!

In his first high jump competition, first-year midget Alex McDuffie finished 2nd of 6 athletes, clearing 1.45m. Alex also finished 3rd of 6 athletes in the 200m in a personal best time of 27.08s. Well doneAlex!

Maria added another 78cm to her PB in the javelin, throwing 14.09m to finish 2nd. Maria also finished 2nd of 7 athletes in the shot put, where her best throw was 7.99m. Well done Maria!

Despite the weather, Jessica recorded personal best performances in both of her events. In the 200m,Jessica finished 2nd of 11 athletes in 28.52s, while in the 300m, Jessica placed 5th of 9 athletes in 45.81s. Well done Jessica!

First-year midget Antha improved the PB in the 200m that she had established just last weekend, finishing 6th of 11 athletes in 30.77s. Well done Antha!

First-year midget Lauren Fridman won the high jump competition and the 1200m where, despite the windy and cold conditions, she was less than 2 seconds off her PB. Well done Lauren!

First-year midget Siri put pressure on the older midgets, finishing 3rd of 11 athletes in the 200m in 29.32s. Siri also finished 4th of 7 athletes in the shot put, where her best throw was 7.31m. Well doneSiri!

Bantam Anna was not in the least intimidated by the older midget athletes, recording an impressive 2.17s PB of 33.14s in the 200m. Well done Anna!

In her first attempt at the 200m hurdles, Lauren Garnett ran an excellent race, finishing in 33.80s. Well done Lauren!

Mia, one of our youngest bantam athletes, took almost 2 seconds off her PB in the midget 200m, where she finished 7th of 11 athletes in 31.16s. Well done Mia!

Bantam Nathan cleared his personal best height of 1.35m to finish 4th of 6 athletes in the midget high jump. Well done Nathan!

In her first attempt at the 200m, first-year bantam Heather finished in 33.98s. Well done Heather!

Well done athletes! Great results given the tough conditions! I was pleased to see that you all came so well prepared for the weather, with blankets, hats and mitts. I was also very pleased to see JD athletes shaking the hands of the officials at the end of the field event competitions. I know that they were grateful for your acknowledgement of their participation given the miserable conditions. Thank you for being such fine ambassadors for CALTAF.
