JD Results for Indoor Provincials

Report from Coach Ed:

Do you put an exclamation mark at the end of an indoor season?  Well if you can you do, and did we ever!

We had a great meet in Edmonton on the weekend and it capped off a great indoor season.

I want to thank everyone, coaches, athletes, parents for making it a special fun few months for me.

The complete 100 page meet results are here.

I will keep my comments brief, I have yet to do the work on recording all the PBs we achieved.  There were so many. My flight to Havana leaves on Thursday morning so I need to just get this message out.

The Bantams:

Hanna, Cam and Grace.

Hannah with a 1.30 HJ and 7.67 SP, Cam with a PB in the 150 and first time under 3:00 in the 800m, and Grace well what can you say about a 1:48 600m followed up with a 2:32 800m?  Goodness Gracious Gracie!

Adeem, Nathan, Charles and Mehrdad.

I like the way you guys compete, you take turns letting the other guys win once in a while.  Who would have guessed that Mehrdad has the fastest 60m of the four of you?  How about Nathan’s 600m and Charles’ 800m (first time under 3:00!)?  Best of the bunch, both of them.  You go to the shot circle and it’s Adeem’s turn.  And the sportsmanship award goes to Charles who saved the day for Nathan and Adeem by going to find them so they wouldn’t miss flight 2 of the med ball throw.  Thanks Charles.  Great work guys!

The Midgets:

We have two provincial champions in our midst!

Mia in a tense, dramatic shot put (also silver in the weight throw) and Igor just had a rollicking good time in the hurdles (also silver in the shot put)!

Mia and Igor: congratulations to you both, that is a great achievement.  I am looking forward to the summer meets already!

Meghan was oh so close with a silver in the 200m and a bronze in the 60m (it’s the most competitive event of the meet so this is no small feat).

Anise struck silver in the triple jump then served notice that she’s a long sprinter by capturing her section in the 200m.

Why was the boys hurdles such a good time?  CALTAF swept the podium!  Harrison nabbed silver and NathanK cleaned up with the bronze.  Did I mention Ben Meister was next?

But you don’t have to win medals to set PBs and win the coach’s admiration and respect.

Merel did just that by registering the fourth fastest time in the 60m heats, winning her section in the 200m and putting in 45.74 (7th place) in the 300.  What about that 1.30m HJ and that 4.35 LJ?  All PBs.

Emma led the way with a 1.40m PB in the HJ.  Put ice on that hip kid.

Kiannah popped a big 5 meter PB in the weight throw.

Delainy and Marissa found out that those long distance races can be, well… long.  We’ll race again another day girls!  Marissa it was good we scratched the 800m anyway, how would you have got that PB in the HJ when they were at the same time?

Lyle had another PB in the HJ at 1.55m.  I’ll just keep entering you if you are going to get a PB every time.  Your 1200m was impressive, thanks for doing that.  We’ll do more of it now.

Sean made the semi-final in the 60m and then ran an 8.68.  That’s the way to do it, each race progressively faster.  Not everyone gets that believe it or not.

Matt went under 3:00 in the 800!  Not bad for someone caring around all that extra weight on his broken hand.

Harrison put in a monster PB in the 800, down to 2:26.  All that hockey is paying off!

I want a special shout out to the three girls who came to their first Edmonton meet, Jessica, Sarah and Merel.  I hope you had a great weekend!

REMINDER NO PRACTICES AT THE UNIVERSITY THIS WEEK AND NEXT.

I WILL SEE YOU AT TALISMAN CENTRE TOMORROW @6:15pm.  (bring your swimsuit if you want to hit the hot tub after we run a bit)

Now.  Let’s get ready for outdoors!
