Results from the Dino Challenge

I would like to offer my congratulations to the thirty-four JD athletes – Brent Bester, Nicholas, Rui, Keegan, Charlie, Austin, Matthew Springer, Eric, Patrick Lyster, Alex McDuffie, Brent Stephen, Michael, Alex Charlesworth, Nathan, Patrick Meister, Sean, Ben, Katie, Ellie, Kendall, Antha, Lauren Fridman, Chase, Siri, Janessa, Emily, Delainy, Dana, Emma Martin, Madelaine, Emma Chong, Rhea, Mia and Heather – who competed in the Dino Challenge today. There were some impressive results.

I would especially like to congratulate our newest athletes, who were competing in their very first meet: Rui, Keegan, Patrick Lyster, Alex McDuffie, Nathan, Kendall, Siri, Dana,Emma Chong and Rhea. I thought you looked remarkably composed out on the track. Anyone watching the races would never have known that you were new athletes competing in your first events. You warmed up on your own, marshaled in as required, and showed up at the start line on time and ready to race. Well done all of you! You should be very proud of the results of your first meet.

Our veterans also competed very well, with many achieving personal best performances.Nicholas, Matthew, Brent Stephen, Michael, Alex Charlesworth, Katie, Emma Martinand Madelaine each recorded a personal best performances in one event, while Brent Bester, Patrick Meister and Heather recorded PBs in both of their events. Well done athletes! It’s good to see your hard work at training sessions being rewarded.

The gutsiest performance of the meet came from Charlie who, despite being spiked in the ankle at the start line of the 800m, which resulted in a trip to the hospital and several stitches, finished the four laps around the track without so much as a limp. Most athletes would have stopped, Charlie. That was an impressive display of determination. Well done! We all wish you a speedy recovery.

I was very pleased to see many displays of good sportsmanship from the JD athletes during the meet – words of encouragement to teammates and opponents at the start line and handshakes at the finish line – but the display I admired the most was the pat on the back from Patrick Lyster to Brent Bester as Brent passed Patrick near the end of the 3000m andBrent’s nod to Patrick in return. The gestures of true gentlemen, Patrick and Brent. Well done!
