Cheetahs Wrap up – Calgary Spring Challenge May 10 and 11, 2014

Cheetahs Report by Samantha Read:
What a great start to the season!  Mother Nature decided to throw everything in her basket at us but our 23 athletes went out and competed well over the two days!
Hanna placed 2nd overall on Day 1 of the Peewee competition placing 2nd in the 60m, 4th in the 600m and 2nd in the Long Jump.  She also ran on the Junior Development 4x100m Relay  that placed first in the blizzard on Saturday!!
David had a big throw in the Bantam Discus of 18.58m that placed him 4th overall.
Thomas, Nicholas E, Tosin and Josh ran strong 60m races.  Hanna, Sarah, Ella, Georgia, Alivia, Nicole, Bryn, Maegan, Avery and Jessica had fast races and made sure that the crowd knew that the Cheetahs were ready to run fast!!!
Ellie ran a beautiful hurdles race and David after a fall got up and ran a flawless race.
David came back in the 80m with Zack, Ellie and Maya W with excellent races.
The ladies 600m was a race to see! Sarah, Hanna, Alivia, Karen, Nicole, Jessica, Avery, Bryn and Madison took it out hard and made all the other competitors work hard.  A person in the stands asked, “Where did all these Cheetahs come from?”  Excellent running ladies! Tosin and Josh took it out hard as well and had solid races.
Our distance crew of Evan, Maya W, Nicole and Karen ran aggressive races in the 800, 1000m and 1200m and should be very proud of their accomplishments.
In the Long Jump David, Thomas, Tosin, Josh, Nicholas and Zack jumped really well.  Hanna, Georgia, Alivia, Sarah, May W, Avery, Maegan, Bryn and Madison also had a great day in the pit.
Thomas and Joshua R recorded big throws after seeing the mark that David set. Avery led the way for the ladies followed by Bryn and Madison.
Evan and Joshua R ran quite well in the 150m.  Ella followed by Maya W, Georgia, Nicole and Karen led the ladies.
In the Standing Long Jump Joshua R and Nolan had big jumps.  They then went over to the Shot Put and did quite well!
Special thank you to Maya P for braving the terrible conditions on Saturday to come out and try and help the Peewee Girls 4x100m relay.
All in all it was a great start to the season.  Congratulations team!
Go Cheetahs!
