A little bit about our head coach, Kim Cousins. From grassroots to the Olympic stage, Kim Cousins has built a reputation as one of Canada’s leading sprint and hurdle coaches. An Olympic coach and long-time Head Coach of Team Alberta, Kim has developed athletes into high school champions, U SPORTS medalists, national team members, and international podium finishers.
At the core of our philosophy is the unwavering belief that dedicated and consistent effort paves the way to achieving one’s goals. Here at the Power Speed/Throws/Jumps group, we are driven by a singular mission: to unearth the utmost potential within each athlete.
Guided by this ethos, every athlete under our wing receives meticulous event-specific guidance and a tailored training regimen meticulously crafted to align with their unique athletic aptitude. Our bedrock is a culture that thrives on encouragement, respect, and positivity – an environment wherein individual athletes not only hone their skills but also undergo personal growth within a cohesive team setting.
Our track record speaks volumes: our athletes have soared to compete at the highest echelons, gracing Provincial, National, and even Olympic stages. Our commitment knows no bounds, as we stand by our athletes year-round. Even as winter casts its chill, our training and competitions move indoors, ensuring a continuous evolution of skills.
For those who attain the requisite prowess, opportunities abound for national and international travel to engage in top-tier competitions.
Join us in this journey of self-discovery and excellence – where sweat, dedication, and camaraderie converge to redefine what is achievable in the realm of athleticism.
Base Training (Starts end of September 2025)
Outdoor Season (Starts April 1)
Indoor Season (November to April)
Training Info
We typically train four days per week as a group (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday) from October to March for the Indoor season, and April to July for the Outdoor season. Training sessions are held at Repsol/MNP, the University of Calgary, Glenmore track, and Foothills Track. Athletes are often given independent training programs that are done outside of the group sessions and will support their strength, power and speed development.
Training Camp or Early Season Meets in the US
For athletes who have demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement and hard work, a training camp or early season meets in the US will occur in a warm-weather location during the spring. The purpose of this camp/meet is to give athletes a jump start on the outdoor training and competition season. Training camp consists of multiple daily training sessions.
