CIS Results report

Barb Sim reports on CIS Championships in Windsor:

We had 5 athletes representing the University of Calgary Dinos’ at the 2009 CIS competition in Windsor this year.

Holly and Trent Ratzlaff and Mike Saizew were the first athletes to compete doing the preliminaries for the 600m race on the Thursday evening.  All of them made it to the finals.

On Friday Heather Sim ran the 1000m and in the last 130 meters made her move on two other runners in capturing her first individual gold at CI’s.  The 4X800m relays were that night and Holly Ratzlaff and Heather Sim ran with the women’s team and finished fifth while Mike Saizew, Trent Ratzlaff and Madison Theriault helped the men’s team win the bronze.

The 600 finals were on Saturday. Holly finished 5th and Trent, taking the lead from the beginning of his race, won the gold and set a facility record!  Mike finished 3rd in the same race – his best personal finish at CI’s!

The last individual event was the 1500m and Heather Sim kicked in the lsat 130 meters again in order to win bronze.

The meet ended with the 4X400 relays. Holly Ratzlaff and the women’s team won a silver medal.  The men’s team had been DQ’d at CanWest so there was not a team for CI’s.  This was a disappointment as they are currently the record holders for this event.

Our four athletes had a terrific meet and each of them came home with medals.  Well done.

Our coaching staff ( Christine Laverty and Jason Lindsay) had all the athletes ready to compete at this event and everyone was impressed with the results for our CALTAF athletes. Great job coaches!!
