Caltaf Heads To Junior & Senior Nationals

2016 was an exciting year if you were a Senior athlete / Olympic hopeful, but it turned out to be a great year for the athletes of Caltaf as well.

From the distance group, we walked away with 3 Bronze medals.

The first medal came from Rebecca John, running her second 5 K ever. Although it was a small field of competitors, Rebecca pushed herself to a 7 second PB (19:26.56) and a well-deserved medal. This was the first event of the meet so it had that as an added pressure. Rebecca was not content there however, as she ran a PB in the 800 and made it into the Junior Women’s semi-final.

Our next medal came on Sunday morning in the Junior Men’s 5K. Angus Rawling was relentless, leading most of the race and surging against every challenge. It was in the last 150 that three athletes went by Angus with big kicks. Angus responded and managed to run a 10 second PB and gain himself a medal to go along with that. This was Angus’s first time under 15:00 minutes and he went 14:53.6.

That afternoon was the final of the Junior men’s 800m. Rhys Kramer had qualified from the semi-final with a PB and winning his heat on the Saturday. It turned out to be an extremely tight race and Rhys shocked everyone by coming out of 6th place on the last 100m and breezed by the other athletes to earn himself, his second PB of the weekend and a bronze medal.

It was now time for the 4 X 400m relays… Girls first… Sarah Choate, Savana Jordan, Athena Fourlas and Emma Hubbard teamed up for a silver. There were 4 teams in the race but one team was a regional team so the Caltaf girls walked away with a Silver Medal in the Club rankings.

The Junior Boys took their example from the girl’s race and finished with Silver medals as well in the 4 X 400. The men’s team was comprised of Graham Season, David Munoz, Liam Murray and Rhys Kramer.
